Downforce

Downforce is our friend

Downforce is a downwards thrust created by the aerodynamic characteristics of a car. The purpose of downforce is to allow a car to travel faster through a corner by increasing the vertical force on the tires, thus creating more grip.

The same principle that allows an airplane to rise off the ground by creating lift from its wings is used in reverse to apply force that presses the race car against the surface of the track. This effect is referred to as “aerodynamic grip” and is distinguished from “mechanical grip,” which is a function of the car mass repartition, tires, and suspension. The creation of downforce by passive devices almost always can only be achieved at the cost of increased aerodynamic drag (or friction), and the optimum setup is almost always a compromise between the two.

FAKE Brembo Brake Covers

Brembo Brake covers: Don’t get fooled

We keep getting enquiries from time to time from customers asking us for Brembo Brake Covers and every time it upsets us. We decided to write a blog and warn our customers not to buy this plastic nonsense!

Unfortunately, there are still some people around trying just to take the money out of our customers’ wallets. And sadly, people are falling for it. The shiny plastic covers, which replace the cars original callipers, are just an extended calliper cover. IT IS NOT MADE BY BREMBO AND WILL LIKELY MELT!

Indeed, a real Brembo Gran Turismo kit improves the look but more importantly it improves the performance of the car and that’s the real point in spending the money. The good look is just a bonus.

How do you change a single-piston caliper into a six-piston caliper from Brembo? You could buy a real Brembo kit or you could buy knock-off Brembo brake covers.

These brake brake covers are made of a resin plastic and painted red. They are glued to the calliper with silicon adhesive. To top it off, they have a counterfeit Brembo logo. The covers even have fake bleeder screws. They can fit any calliper because nothing says performance like a six-piston calliper on a 10-inch rotor.

Some of these covers can cause cooling problems. If installed improperly, they can prevent the calliper from being centred over the rotor.

So not only do they look awful, they can indeed become a risk to the performance of the car! ORZ Performance, as the official distributor for Brembo High Performance products, wants to clearly distance ourselves from such products and can once again only warn against purchasing and installing them.
